Chargé d’Affaires Tressa Rae Finerty Reaffirms Support for Tibetan People During Meeting with Representative Thinley Chukki

On 4 April 2025, Representative Thinley Chukki and UN Advocacy Officer Phuntsok Topgyal from the Tibet Bureau in Geneva met with Her Excellency Tressa Rae Finerty, member of the Senior Foreign Service and the Chargé d’Affaires for the U.S. Mission to the United Nations and Other International Organisations in Geneva.
During the meeting, both sides discussed various Tibet-related issues with particular focus on the human rights situation inside Tibet, as well as the ongoing restrictions faced by Tibetans and the importance of protecting Tibet’s unique culture, language and religious identity.
The Representative also presented a copy of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s latest book ‘Voice For Voiceless’. Citing chapter 16 of the book, she appealed for continued international support for the Tibetan cause and expressed gratitude to the US government for imposing sanctions on several Chinese government officials as per the US Reciprocal Access to Tibet Act.
Chargé d’Affaires Tressa Rae Finerty reaffirmed the US’ firm commitment to supporting the Tibetan cause and the Tibetan people’s efforts to preserve their unique cultural and linguistic heritage. This meeting highlighted the shared values between the Tibetan movement and the US in advocating for human rights, religious freedom, and peaceful dialogue.
