He is also the leader of the Indian National Congress party in Assam and is serving as the President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee from 2016 till date. <span lang=\"en-US\">He is a former Cabinet Minister of Government of Assam for Education and has also held several <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">independent charges including Panchayat and Rural Development as well as Elementary Education. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Prior to entering politics, he was a practicing advocate in Gauhati High Court, Assam Civil Service Officer and lecturer at Chaiduar College, Gohpur.
