He engaged in nine rounds of formal discussions and one informal meeting with representatives of the\u00a0Chinese leadership (2002-2010). He also served as the Representative of His Holiness of Dalai Lama for Central and Eastern Europe (1985-1992). He also served as the secretary to His Holiness for international relations at the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala. In 1999, he returned to Switzerland and\u00a0continued to serve as the Envoy of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Europe heading the Office of Tibet, Brussels (2001-2005) and the Office of Tibet in Geneva (2005-2008).
