Dr. Emile Dirks is a research associate at the Citizen Lab at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto, where he explores state surveillance, policing, and politics in China. His research on biometric surveillance has been covered in The New York Times, The Economist, and The Intercept, among other publications.

Previously, Emile served as a fellow at the Mercator Institute for China Studies and a research associate at the London School of Economics.
