Ms. Mercè Monje Cano is Secretary- General of the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO), an international membership-based organisation representing communities that are not represented at the United Nations and other major international decision-making spaces. She leads UNPO’s work to strengthen member advocacy, expand strategic partnerships, and amplify unrepresented voices in multilateral forums, with a focus on rights-based approaches that link human rights, cultural identity, and sustainable development. With over 15 years of experience in international advocacy, programme leadership, coalition-building, and strategic communications, Mercè has supported diverse communities facing political exclusion, civic space restrictions, and structural discrimination. Her work highlights the close connection between self-determination and the fundamental rights of Peoples, including the protection of land and environmental rights—recognising that control over territory, natural resources, and development choices is often central to safeguarding livelihoods, identity, and long-term community resilience.
