Senator Pavel Fischer, Member of Senate, Czech Republic

Pavel Fischer has been Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Security and Defense of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic since October 2018. Until 2003, he was a senior political adviser to the late President Václav Havel, as well as Director of the Political Department of the Office of the President. He was then appointed Ambassador of the Czech Republic to France and Monaco. Following seven years as ambassador, he served as Director General for Defence, Security and Strategic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Having resigned in 2013 for family reasons, he has since worked with governmental and non-governmental partners. He was director of the Institute for Empirical Studies STEM in Prague, among other positions. He was a candidate in the 2018 and 2023 presidential elections. As a senator, he stood in the 2018 election and again in the 2024 election, winning outright. He is the father of four and is married to Klara, an entrepreneur and designer who works part-time in palliative care.
